An ancient Roman column marking the center of historic Constantinople.
The Çemberlitaş Column, also called the Column of Constantine, stands as a testament to Istanbul's ancient Roman past. Erected in 330 AD by Emperor Constantine the Great, it marked the center of his new capital, Constantinople. The column is made of porphyry stone and originally had a statue of Constantine on top, which was replaced by a cross. Over centuries, the column has been damaged by earthquakes and fires, but it remains a significant historical monument and a symbol of the city's rich past.
