Belém Tower, or Torre de Belém, is a fortified tower located on the northern bank of the Tagus River. Built in the early 16th century, it is a prime example of the Portuguese Manueline style, with its ornate stonework and maritime motifs. Originally built to defend Lisbon, it has since become a symbol of Portugal's Age of Discoveries and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
