Trinity College and the Book of Kells
Dublin • Historical Sites
Home to Ireland's oldest university and the famous illuminated manuscript, the Book of Kells.

A former prison that tells the story of Ireland's struggle for independence.
Kilmainham Gaol, operational from 1796 until 1924, is now a museum dedicated to the history of Irish nationalism. Many leaders of Irish rebellions were incarcerated and executed here, including those from the 1916 Easter Rising. The guided tours offer a poignant insight into the harsh conditions prisoners faced and the political turmoil of the times. The museum also houses a collection of memorabilia related to the independence movement.
