Grótta Island and Lighthouse

Located at the farthest end of the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula, Grótta Island is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Accessible by a short walk during low tide, the island is home to a charming lighthouse that has become a symbol of the area. It's a perfect spot for birdwatching, with many migratory birds nesting here in the warmer months. The views of the surrounding sea and mountains are spectacular, particularly at sunset when the sky over Reykjavik lights up with hues of orange and pink. In winter, it’s also a great place to watch the northern lights away from city lights.
