Château d'If is a fortress built in the 16th century on the orders of King Francis I. It gained fame as the setting for Alexandre Dumas' novel, 'The Count of Monte Cristo'. Initially intended as a defense structure, it later served as a state prison. The fortress is known for its well-preserved architecture and the panoramic views it offers of the Mediterranean Sea.
